In Constant Bloom, Lucas Foglia follows the longest
known butterfly migration, which spans Europe, Africa,
and the Middle East. His photographs trace both the
path of Painted Lady butterflies and the people they
encounter along the way, offering an allegory for our
delicate, interconnected, and resilient world.
Foglia grew up with his extended family on a small farm
in the suburbs of New York City, where they farmed and
preserved their own food and heated their home with
wood. While malls and supermarkets developed around
them, his family lived by many principles of the backto-the-land movement. Now exhibited and published
internationally, Foglia’s intimate, lyrical, and hyperreal
photographs explore how people live within the landscapes that sustain them.
